Summer Camp Classes:
Sea Urchins :
This class is for the youth ages 6-8 with no prior sailing or boating experience. The class runs in 1 week session only in the mornings. The Sea Urchins will learn about the basics of sailing, sea life, the bay, and gaining confidence while on the water. Students will sail with instructors and go on motor boat rides around the bay. Simple arts and craft projects related to boating are also part of this class.
Beginning Sailing :
The beginner JY class will be an introduction to sailing and seamanship for our youngest students. Students will be introduced to the water, some for the first time, in a fun and comfortable environment. They will be sailing 2 per boat in one of our trainer Optis. The ability to sail upwind, gain confidence, and having fun is the main focus.
This class is for students who have prior sailing experience but have no desire to learn how to race and just want to have a good time on the bay. Students will sail in our new fleet of RS Terras. They will sail 2 per boat as they continue to learn about the theory of sailing and boating while going on adventures around Richardson Bay.
The Opti Racing class will be geared for younger sailors who are ready to sail an Opti single-handed. Our coaches will be teaching more intricate sailing skills with an introduction and focus on racing. They will review past skills and build new confidence in the sport.
High School Sailing/Double-hand :
The beginner CFJ class is fun introduction to sailing and seamanship for our older students and those who plan to join their high school sailing team. Students will be introduced to sailing in depowered CFJ’s which are double handed youth sailing boats. At first instructors may sail with their students with as many as 3 per boat. Eventually the students will be sailing double-handed on their own. Upwind sailing and basic seamanship are the main focus.
SYC race team targets more advanced sailors looking to focus on improving their boat handling and racing strategy. In addition to weekly practices, race team sailors compete locally (sometimes regionally) throughout the summer and rest of the year. We will attend BAYS (Bay Area Youth Sailing) regattas. The BAYS regatta schedule can be found here.
The fall session runs mid September through October and the spring session runs early April though mid May. These sessions are divided into beginner and advanced groups, and are intended to help kids maintain what they have learned over the summer and continue to develop skill and technique throughout the school year. Dates/times are TBD based on interest.
High School Program:
