Spring Sailing Classes

SPRING SAILING CLASSES:

opti sailing 1Practice Tyler and NoahThe 2017 Spring Sailing Program at SYC is focused around fun and continuing to build on skills learned during the summer and fall programs.  Classes will be sailed in RS Terras, CFJ and double handed 420s with an emphasis on learning proper rigging and boat handling, and an introduction to racing. Spring sailing at SYC is intended for those who have some sailing experience from a summer or fall session and want to continue to improve their skills, enjoy the adventure of sailing around the bay. as well as learn to race.

We are adjusting our schedule this year to provide after school classes.  We will have our traditional Saturday classes and a combined weekday and weekend session in May.  You can sign up for either day or both.

Terra Adventure Sailing – Our Most Popular Option!

Saturdays and Sundays 9:30-12:30.  These classes are for Beginner to Intermediate sailors ages 9-13.  Class is focused on enjoying the sport of sailing, exploring the bay and improving on sailing skills learned during a summer or fall program.  This class is not ideal for first time sailors, but we can accommodate with approval from Youth Sailing Director.  We also offer a Tera Racing course in May for those looking to expand their sailing skills.

Double Handed Sailing

Offered on Saturday only 9:30-12:30. This class is for Intermediate sailors ages 13-18.  Class is designed to accommodate teenagers who want to learn how to sail a double handed boat in preparation for being a part of a high school sailing team.  Class focuses on basic sailing skills and an introduction to racing.

Intro 420 Class

Offered on Fridays from 3:30-6:00. This class is for Intermediate-Advanced teenagers with prior sailing and racing experience who are interested in learning how to sail/race a 420.  Class will be focused on learning how to trapeze and use a spinnaker with an emphases on advanced racing.  Those attending this class should have aspirations for joining the SYC Advanced Racing Team.

ALL CLASSES REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 3 PARTICIPANTS TO HOLD THE CLASS.
