2020 Youth Sailing Summer Camp

Preliminary Dates: June 15-August 14

Beginner Sailing

The beginner Tera class will be an introduction to sailing and seamanship for our youngest students ages 8-11. Classes run Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. We offer 1 week and 2 week sessions. Students will be introduced to the water, some for the first time, in a fun and comfortable environment. They will be sailing 2 per boat in one of our trainer RS Tera. The ability to utilize all points of sail and gain confidence sailing with a partner is the main focus.

The syllabus for this class is based on a two week session and therefore we strongly encourage your child to join us for a full two weeks. If your only option is to take the 1st week of a class you must contact the Youth Director for permission.

Intermediate – Adventure Sailing:

This class is for sailors ages 10-14 who have prior sailing experience but do not wish to race competitively. Classes run Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. Students will continue to learn about general sailing skills and seamanship. The class will use our fleet of RS Teras with 2 sailors as they go on adventures around Richardson Bay. Main goals of the class are to promote confidence on the water and independence while venturing away from the yacht club.

The syllabus for this class is based on a two week session and therefore we strongly encourage your child to join us for a full two weeks. If your only option is to take the 1st week class you must contact the Youth Director for permission.

RS Tera  Introduction to Racing

Our coaches will be teaching more intricate sailing skills and towards the end of the class, racing will be introduced. They will review past skills and build new confidence in the sport.

High School/Double-hand CFJ

Our Double Handed class surves two purposes 1)an introduction to sailing for ages 13-18 and 2) intermediate level teaching for older students with prior experience.  This class focuses on the basics of sailing and learning how to sail a double handed vesel with two sails.  The class is perfect  for our older students who plan to sail on their High School team. Classes run Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. Students will be introduced to sailing in de-powered CFJ’s which are double handed youth sailing boats. At first instructors may sail with their students with as many as 3 per boat. Eventually the students will be sailing double-handed. Upwind sailing and basic seamanship are the main focus.

The syllabus for these classes are based on a two week session and therefore we strongly encourage your child to join us for the full two weeks. If your only option is to take a one week class you must contact the Youth Director for permission.

420 Class Intermediate-Advanced

SYC 420 race team targets more advanced sailors looking to focus on improving their boat handling and racing strategy.  Class runs Monday-Thursday 12:30-4:00.  Ages 13-18 with prior approval from Youth Sailing Director.  Two years of prior sailing experience required. In addition to weekly practices, race team sailors compete locally (sometimes regionally) throughout the summer and rest of the year. We will attend BAYS (Bay Area Youth Sailing) regattas. The BAYS regatta schedule can be found at www.bayareayouthsailing.org

Sea Urchins

We unfortunately will not longer be offer this class.  After a lot of thought we decided it was too difficult to find instructors that are qualified to teach such young students.  If you have a child under 8 yrs old that really wants to try sailing call the Youth Sailing Director to discuss options.
