Class space and schedules are dependent on instructor availability, Covid Restrictions, and club operations.
BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Know how to swim. Pass swimming and capsize evaluations on day 1.
The 9-foot Tera is the new standard in youth sail training. The RS Tera is specifically designed for junior sailors under 5’4” and 120lbs in weight. We offer Tera classes for beginners (Level 1, first summer sessions), and intermediates (Level 2, after completing one summer session). At the beginner level students learn the basics of sailing such was wind direction, safety and seamanship, basic sailing knots, sail trim, and steering. Before moving on to intermediates sailors need to demonstrate the use of the tiller extension, being comfortable when capsizing, proper docking, and points of sail. Depending on age some students take this class twice.
RACE TEAM
Ages: 9-17
Prerequisites; Completion of 1 Beginning Sailing course or equivalent within the last 6 months. Strong swimmer.
*MUST HAVE PREVIOUS SAILING EXPERIENCE, NO BEGINNER LEVEL STUDENTS.
Single handed sailing only for now. Class will use RS Teras.
This offering is geared towards sailors who have prior experience and wish to expand on what they have learned. Focusing on proper rigging, points of sail, seamanship, and getting comfortable sailing away from the yacht club. Adventuring with your sailing friends while continueing to learn through formal instruction and lessons.
DOUBLE HANDED CFJ
Prerequisites: Completion of a Beginning Sailing class. Strong Swimmer. Minimum weight of 90 lbs.
This class is designed for older 8th grader and high school aged sailors who have some previous sailing experience. This is not a Learn to Sail class. The group will be introduced to double handed sailing in the CFJ, a boat that requires two sailors and use of two sails. Class will be focused on working with a partner, how to maneuver a larger and heavier boat as well as improving on basic sailing knowledge and seamanship.
TAM HIGH SCHOOL SAILING TEAM
Prerequisites: Desire to be on the Tamalpais High School Sailing Team, some prior sailing knowledge/experience. Strong swimmer. Must own your own sailing gear: wetsuit, lifejacket, sailing shoes, etc...
This group is for those sailors who have a desire to compete with the Tamalapais High School Sailing Team. This will be a introductory class to get familiar with how high school sailing operates. The group will be mixed with previous team members, new members, and all sailing skill levels. Must be enrolled at Tamalpais High School.
**All participants of this class must sign the Tam Club Waiver**
RECREATIONAL SAILING
Prerequisites: Completion of a Beginning Level class. Comfortable sailing solo. Comfortable capsizing should it happen.
Ages 9-18
This program gives youth sailors who have previously been a part of our programs access to boats and a chance to get on the water and enjoy sailing. There is no formal instruction for this class. Therefore this is not a 'learn to sail' program. You must have previous sailing experience with our program. This is for youth only. Available boats will include 1 Laser and RS Teras with a large or small sail. Double-handed boats may be available depending on Marin County Covid regulations. Supervision and certified instructors in motor boats will be provided. Particpants are required to register for the entire session- no prorating if you cannot make one of the scheduled days.
